Ten months of fighting has fuelled one of the world's worst hunger crises, with 4.9 million people, or 10 per cent of the population, experiencing "emergency" level hunger conditions.

Since the invasion in February 2022, over 6 million people have fled Ukraine, with 4 million internally displaced, while 7.3 million require food and livelihood support, and Action Against Hunger has supported more than 1.5 million individuals since then.

Five international NGOs have warned that water shortages will continue and Afghanistan’s humanitarian and development crises will deepen further.

Action Against Hunger warns that anything short of an immediate ceasefire and a massive increase in aid would be a historic failure to protect civilians, and calls on the international community to take all possible steps to achieve this goal.

New analysis by Action Against Hunger finds that countries dealing with crisis-level hunger received only 35% of hunger-related funding requested in 2023

Despite the enormous challenges, our teams in Gaza have been able to provide aid to 60,000 families (340,000 people) since the conflict began in October. With Gaza on the verge of a devastating famine, we are calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire to allow sustained humanitarian access to people in dire need.

A report produced by the UN, governments, and NGOs, including Action Against Hunger, has been published with the highest rating, Phase 5 or Catastrophe, for food security in two areas of Gaza. Despite the extreme challenges, Action Against Hunger continues to work in some areas of Gaza distributing water, food, hygiene products or installing latrines.

The new study, which shows that a significant percentage of children successfully treated for severe acute malnutrition are vulnerable to relapse, provides valuable new insights that could save lives by improving the long-term impact of threadbare aid budgets.

Action Against Hunger teams have been able to scale up their humanitarian response, however, the renewed fighting puts our activities at risk, which is why we insist that a permanent ceasefire is necessary to meet the most basic needs of Gaza’s civilian population.
