Action Against Hunger's Conflict Café leaves guests hungry for action

Influencers, journalists, MPs, and FCDO officials were served a scaled-back “menu” to highlight the impact of conflict on the supply of food throughout the world. Action Against Hunger’s pop-up café comes at a time when over 85% of people facing hunger crises live in conflict-affected countries; this is according to the charity’s report which launches this week

World’s Best Food Photographs Served Up

During the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2023, Action Against Hunger fundraised through the 'On the Phone' category, in which photographers paid £2 to enter their photo into the competition. The winner of the prize was Bonnet Delights by Hein van Tonder, for his depiction of street food in Galle, Sri Lanka (see picture).

Cyclone Mocha hits Bangladesh and Myanmar's Rakhine State

Significant damage has been caused by Cyclone Mocha, which struck the coastlines of Bangladesh and Myanmar on Sunday 14 May. The situation in Myanmar's Rakhine State seems particularly worrying. Action Against Hunger teams are assessing the humanitarian needs of those affected and are preparing to launch an emergency response in the coming days.

Action Against Hunger UK responds to the launch of the Global Report on Food Crises 2023

The Global Report on Food Crises 2023 highlights that the number of people experiencing hunger is on the rise. Action Against Hunger has a presence in some of the most crisis-laden countries listed in the report: Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Yemen. In these countries, 40 per cent of the population face critical levels of hunger. Action Against Hunger UK's Head of Advocacy, Kate Munro, responds to the report.

Syrian population facing deepening levels of hunger: 12 years after the beginning of the conflict

There has been a 50% increase over the last few years in the number of Syrian people facing food insecurity – overall, 15 million people need humanitarian assistance. This is in the face of conflict, the recent earthquake, a cholera outbreak, and drought. Action Against Hunger has been working in the country since 2008; it was one of the first humanitarian aid agencies to respond to the humanitarian crisis caused by the Syrian conflict. 14 million people have been supported so far through the charity’s programmes.
