Action Against Hunger mourns killing of two beloved colleagues in Gaza

Mohammed Hussein and Obada Abu Issa, were killed the afternoon of 26 June 2025 by an Israeli airstrike within a highly populated area of Gaza, which had not yet received displacement orders.

Action Against Hunger is dismayed to share the news that two of our colleagues, Mohammed Hussein and Obada Abu Issa, were killed the afternoon of 26 June 2025 by an Israeli airstrike within a highly populated area of Gaza, which had not yet received displacement orders. Neither Mohammed nor Obada were working at the time of the strike.

Both Obada and Mohammed were beloved members of our team in Gaza for the last year. Obada joined our Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) team in February 2024 as a Program Field Assistant. Mohammed began working as an office guard with Action Against Hunger in June 2024.

Mohammed was 20 years old. He was looking forward to extending his contract for another year, carrying his future in mind and trying to shape it as best he could. Mohammed’s friends and colleagues cherish him as an exemplary of morality, with a generous heart that embraced everyone, giving those around him sincere support without asking for anything in return.

Obada was 30 years old. In his death, he leaves behind his wife and two children. He will also leave behind an irreplaceable gap in Action Against Hunger’s WASH team, where he was an integral colleague and friend, remembered for his humour and professionalism.

Action Against Hunger calls for the protection of civilians, including humanitarian workers, and asks for an immediate and permanent ceasefire.

Action Against Hunger will not forget Obada Abu Issa and Mohammed Hussein. We will continue to provide all support to their families and our team in Gaza.

We also reaffirm our unwavering commitment to our humanitarian mission, working tirelessly to provide support and hope to those facing unbelievable challenges in the Gaza Strip.

Action Against Hunger will always remember Mohammed and Obada with warmth.
