On Wednesday August 26, the bursting of a lake triggered a devastating flood in Nepal.

Initial reports indicate 180 dead and more than 1,300 missing in Tibet and Nepal.

But given the images and the scale of the disaster, we fear a dramatic rise in people affected.

Water infrastructure has been swept away, leaving Nepalese families without clean water. And because the disaster has struck during harvest season, a food crisis could follow.

Our teams are mobilising quickly and are assessing how they can support Nepalese communities.

Survivors will be lacking everything, from food and water to shelter, cooking supplies, and medical care.

Please donate to our emergency fund to help us respond with life-saving action in Nepal.

How we've responded to previous floods

We responded to 71 emergencies last year, providing life-saving assistance to communities impacted by floods, earthquakes and other disasters.

With your help, we can provide expert support to Nepal after the devastation of the flash flood.

Emergency shelter and mental health support

When floods affected communities in Kenya, our teams were ready to respond. We supported emergency shelters alongside partners and provided mental health support to victims.

Your donation now can help our teams give similar support to families caught up in the flash flood in Nepal.

Disaster mitigation and recovery

When torrential rain hit refugee camps in Gaza, we were there supporting communities immediately. Our teams provided sand to help mitigate further destruction.

Please make an emergency donation to help Nepalese communities stay protected from the risk of further flooding.

Specialist support for women and girls

After Pakistani families were devastated by flash floods in 2025, we were quick to act with specialist support. We provided essential aid, including hygiene kits and menstrual hygiene products for women and girls.

Donate now to help us reach vulnerable women and girls in Nepal following the devastation of the flash flood.

Our work in Nepal

Action Against Hunger has been present in Nepal since 2005 and implements programs focused on nutrition, as well as water, sanitation, and hygiene to enable families to access sanitation facilities.

Our programs are supporting the resilience of Nepalese communities amid severe effects of climate change on Nepal.

Some of the villages where we work have been completely engulfed by water and mud following the flash flood.
