Catastrophic flooding in Libya has destroyed towns and swept away homes – leaving a trail of devastation. Sadly, more than 11,000 people have died.

We have teams in Libya right now, ready to help people affected by the violent flooding. But we need funding to reach more families that need support. And to save lives.

Your donation today could help by providing food packages, hygiene kits and other essential items. Will you help?

The situation in Libya

Storm Daniel – which had already hit Greece, Turkey and Bulgaria – reached the Libyan coast on Sunday 10 September. The city of Derna, in the east of the country, has been destroyed by the disaster after two nearby dams burst under the pressure of the floods.

Before the floods, 1.5 million people in Libya were already need of humanitarian support. This disaster will only increase the need.

How is Action Against Hunger helping?

Our teams in Libya are monitoring the situation and alongside local partners aim to help 1,000 people by providing food, hygiene kits and other essential items.

We’ve been working in Libya since 2019 – providing vital healthcare, training health professionals and helping women and farmers to earn an income.
