About us
We save the lives of malnourished children and support their families to beat hunger.
Water is becoming more and more scarce.
You can only survive for three to five days without water. If you have water but it’s dirty, you’ll get ill. And then it doesn’t matter if you eat healthy food, because you’ll lose all the nutrients and are then faced with life-threatening hunger.
When that happens, it doesn’t matter how much water you drink, you’re at risk of dying of thirst because your body needs to get rid of all the infected water and you dehydrate rapidly.
So, before anything else, everyone needs to have a safe and reliable source of water.
We build and repair waterpoints, toilet blocks and handwashing stations. We distribute water purification tablets and install water filters. We improve irrigation systems in rural communities. And in homes and schools, we teach people about the importance of good hygiene.
At one school in Tanzania, where 1,100 children attend, seven inadequate toilets led various health issues. But now Action Against Hunger has built 20 new toilets - transforming the lives of students.
The number of children who die everyday from diarrhoea, dysentery, and cholera caused by dirty water and unhygienic living conditions.
More than 2 billion people lack basic handwashing services.
A quarter of people around the world lack drinking water in their homes.
Life-threatening hunger is predictable, preventable and treatable, so a world without it is possible.
We tackle it where it hits and stop it. Whenever and wherever people need our help.
More than that, we work to prevent it in the first place by leading research that will create a world free from hunger. Forever.
How do we do this?
We won’t give up until the world is free from hunger, but many more children need our help.
With your support, we can:
Life-saving treatments are cheaply available and extremely effective. Right now, children and babies need your help. Please donate today.
Your gift could help provide access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene services, to those who need it most.
