About us

We save the lives of malnourished children and support their families to beat hunger.
Our teams are experts at tackling the effects of hunger across the world.
Our approach is so effective that in the course of an average six-week treatment programme – which costs just £42 – we’re able to get young children with severe acute malnutrition firmly back on a path of recovery and also ensure healthy feeding and hygiene practices at home.
Week one: When a patient reaches our centre, they're screened to determine their treatment and care programme. They're then introduced to special therapeutic milk.
Week two: The child receives intensive and urgent treatment. Parents stay with the child in the health centre – this is a safe space for both parent and child.
Week three: After initial stabilisation as inpatients, children can often continue their care from home. With expert care, many children start showing signs of recovery at this point. Therapeutic feeding programmes support their recovery from home.
Weeks four and five: With further care and new routines at home, the child's recovery is in full swing. Clear signs of an improved general mood and better wellbeing start showing.
Week six: Final weight measurements are taken back at the health centre and the child is discharged. Care programmes are put into place to ensure that parents have the support they need to take care of their child.
Action Against Hunger treats more malnourished children than any other charity. We won’t give up until the world is free from hunger, but many more children need our help.
Monthly gifts are vitally important to us. They allow us to sustainably scale our work and reach more children suffering from the effects of malnutrition.
With your support, we can:
Life-saving treatments are cheaply available and extremely effective. You can help us scale up our work to reach more children in need.
Three-quarters of malnourished children under five don't get the treatment they need.
10,000 more children under five could die of malnutrition every month as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
More than 2 million children die from malnutrition every year.
It takes an average of just six weeks to save a child’s life in our malnutrition treatment programmes. Please help us reach thousands of children suffering from deadly malnutrition to make sure they have a future.
