Why prevention is important

It’s important that we not only treat malnutrition, but we prevent the spread of life-threatening hunger. Tackling the underlying causes of hunger is vital in reaching our goal of a world free from hunger. We can’t just react, we have to anticipate.

We help farmers to grow crops in the most difficult climates. Providing drought resistant crops and vaccinating their livestock means that they have food year round, and can sell to their communities and generate income. We also provide families with cash so that people can set up their own businesses.

It’s also important that we train adults in the community to spot the early signs of malnutrition amongst children. This means that fewer children will need to be treated urgently for malnutrition.
