Fanika and her son treated for malnutrition in India.

Life begins with her: Christmas Appeal

This winter, women and children are facing the greatest risk of malnutrition - the most life-threatening form of hunger.

You can help get mothers and their babies the support they deserve by donating now.

Donate this winter

Gender inequality and lack of healthcare mean women’s lives are on the line.

In 2023:

  • 700 women died every day from pregnancy and childbirth complications
  • 1 in 4 children under five worldwide are growing up without enough food to stay healthy

Last year, we delivered specialist support to almost 16 million women and children across 59 countries – including India, Gaza, Somalia and Sudan.

You can help us reach more women with vital support this festive season.

Because Life Begins With Her.

Project Vruddhi: Empowering women and children in India

In Gujarat, India, life-threatening hunger effects thousands of children every year. And anaemia rates among women are dangerously high.

But with the help of programmes like Project Vruddhi, women like Fanika are gaining back their strength – and bringing healthy babies into the world.

Project Vruddhi focuses on improving pregnant women’s and mother’s health and preventing life-threatening malnutrition in their children. The project has supported 171,815 children and 101,183 women, ensuring brighter and better futures for mother and child.

You can discover more about Project Vruddhi and Fanika’s story in our Christmas Appeal video. All made possible by your support.

£25: Home visits for pregnant women

Gaza aid worker stood with pregnant mothers.

Pregnant women and mothers in Gaza are facing devastating conflict while enduring pregnancy and ensuring the best start for their children.

Since the ceasefire, we've treated 1,600 mothers and 4,000 children for malnutrition, providing essential medical care in the most challenging circumstances.

Donating £25 could fund 12 home visits to high-risk women in one of the countries we work in.

£61: Anaemia treatment for two women

Maryan, a woman in Somalia, treated at a health centre.

Somalian women are losing their lives to pregnancy at the highest rate in the world. Gender inequality is leaving women without essential healthcare.

We're supporting over 100 health centres in Somalia, treating anaemia in pregnant women and delivering support like protection from gender-based violence.

Donating £61 could treat anaemia in two pregnant women in countries like Somalia.

£93: Life-saving malnutrition treatment

Moura, a Sudanese refugee, feeding her child Hamida specialist nutritional food.

Escalating conflict and spreading famine in Sudan has left women and children more vulnerable to extreme hunger this winter.

In El Fasher, where violence erupted this November, the only maternal hospital is short on life-saving medicine for mothers and their children.

Donating £93 could provide urgent malnutrition treatment to a child in countries like Sudan.
