The International Run Against Hunger is an educational initiative to raise awarness about malnutrition and water poverty in schools.
It allows children to learn about the severity of global hunger and how they can become part of the solution by fundraising and taking part in a sponsored run.

Run Against Hunger Ambassador
“As a sports enthusiast since Primary School, I encourage everyone to sign up to the Run Against Hunger. Through this campaign we can help give children and their families a chance at life, so they are no longer impeded by malnutrition or at risk from diseases caused by improper sanitation.”
Sid Sloane is an actor, presenter and writer, most popularly known by the nation as the lovable and energetic TV presenter of CBeebies.
The Run Against Hunger is made up of two parts:
The Action Against Hunger Film and Lesson Plans will engage pupils in learning about the severity of global hunger.
Film - Included is a Run Against Hunger film all about our work in Afghanistan. It will show the children first hand how other children live in another part of the world and is accompanied by a set of questions designed to engage the children further as they watch the film.
Lesson Plans - The lesson plans have been designed to highlight the issues of global hunger to the class and are written in conjunction with the National Curriculum for Key Stages 1 and 2.
The run will show pupils how they can become part of the solution by fundraising to help children suffering from malnutrition.
It consists of a sponsored run, whereby children follow a short route mapped out by teachers on their school playing field or local community field. Pupils gain sponsorship in advance of the run for each lap they complete of the route.
The Run is not a competitive event. Rather, the primary aim of the Run Against Hunger is for students to engage in a fun and healthy activity that teaches them about global hunger while raising essential funds for Action Against Hunger’s life-saving programmes around the world.
Each school will set the distance of the laps students will run. Some schools have tracks with a set distance for each lap, while other schools will measure laps by ¼ miles or ½ kilometers in their playing fields or local parks. Pupils can run as many laps as they desire in the time frame set for the event.
As a nationwide campaign, the Run Against Hunger can take place whenever it is convenient for you. We recommend either the summer months May-June, or in the Autumn during September and October - this is simply for weather reasons!
Where will the Run be held?
Some schools have their own tracks or playing fields that are conducive to holding the Run. If your school does not have access to a track or field, the Run can be held at a local park or in the gym. Neighbouring schools can collaborate and hold a multi-school Run at a community park.
After pupils learn about global hunger in the classroom, each participant will be given a sponsorship form. The goal is for pupils to spread awareness about global hunger in their communities and among their families and friends. Pupils will also ask friends and family to become part of the solution by sponsoring them for each lap they run during the Run. Pledges typically range from £1-5 per lap run, with students running between 5-20 laps each. The funds raised by pupils in the Run Against Hunger directly help Action Against Hunger save the lives of malnourished people around the world.
