Virtual fundraising

Get inspired with these creative virtual fundraising ideas, that you can do from the comfort of your own home. Raise money and help support our fight against hunger around the world.

The coronavirus pandemic is impacting nearly every person on the planet. Vulnerable communities affected by conflict and hunger need your support.

Action Against Hunger is already responding to this new threat in the countries where we work. We need to rapidly scale up water, sanitation, and hygiene programmes to prevent infection, and work with local partners to strengthen healthcare systems.

Now more than ever we need to support each other. Use your extra time indoors for good by helping to raise funds so that we can provide life-saving support in the countries where we work.

Get inspired with loads of inspiration to keep fundraising for Action Against Hunger’s lifesaving work, whilst staying safe in these difficult times.

Virtual car boot sale

Use the extra time at home to have a big clear out and sell your old items online, with the profits going to your fundraising. Try eBay, Depop and Facebook Marketplace to sell.

Making and selling face masks

Find a basic template for a face mask and use lots of fun and colourful material to customise each design.

Top tip: use old bed sheets, or clothing as fabric. Make sure to advertise your service in your neighbourhood,
charging a small fee per mask (£2-3).

Local delivery service

Create a menu of lockdown comfort food, snacks or treats, set prices and advertise around your neighbourhood. Make sure you’re using good food hygiene to keep you and others safe.

Top tip: Use social media to advertise your service, making sure everyone knows the money is going to Action Against Hunger. Then simply deliver to their door.

24 hour challenge

With a group of friends decide on a challenge, or you could each do something different. Assign a timetable so everyone knows when its their turn. Use Facebook Live to stream your challenge, sharing the link across your social media. A few ideas we have for challenges are…

  • skipathon
  • juggling
  • climbing stairs
  • sponsored silence

Taskmaster competition

Give your friends and family 24 hours to complete a silly task, then award a prize for the best entry.

Top tip: Create a video call with all the participants to show each entry and decide a winner. Set price to enter (£5), and offer a different task every other day for a week. Here’s a few ideas to get you started…

  • make an animal out of five household items
  • recreate a famous movie scene
  • create a fort using items found in your living room only

Dinner party boxes

Create dinner party hampers with all the ingredients and a recipe for your guest to make at home. Set a price for each hamper (£15-20 depending on the size of the household), and deliver to your guest’s doors. All guests can sit down and eat together over a video call.

Top tip: Host a virtual quiz night or play after dinner games.
