Joint statement on wasting indicator

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will set the global agenda for tackling extreme poverty for the next 15 years. This is a once in a life-time opportunity to ensure that commitments to tacking child malnutrition are prioritised and ambitious. The SDGs will include a target to eliminate acute malnutrition (wasting); however it does not yet include an indicator to measure progress towards reaching this important target.

Given that malnutrition affects 52 million children worldwide and is responsible to 1 million preventable child deaths a year, it is vital that every affected child is counted. That is why UK NGOs, including Action Against Hunger, are calling on the UK to do everything in its power to ensure that the SDGs include an indicator on wasting.
