Your simple guide to planning your Run

Once you've decided to take part in the Run Against Hunger you'll need to plan your run! We appreciate that every school, and every school's calendar, is different, which is why we allow you to pick a run date that suits you. However, there are still some key stages in planning that remain the same - whenever you decide to take part.

Step 1. Pick a date

Choose a date in your school calendar where you don't have clashes with lots of other events and when the weahter is likely to be good! If you can't find one date to suit the whole school, you may want different years groups to take part across two different dates.

Step 2. Confirm your location

Many school fields will be suitable for holding the Run - but if your school doesn't have one, or if it is already booked up, then you'll need to check the availability of local sports grounds and parks to make sure you have an appropriate setting for your Run.

Step 3. Inform parents and recruit volunteers

Once you know the details of the Run it's important to make parents and carers aware so that they can help support their child and spread the word about their fundraising. It is also likely that you will need some volunteers to help out on the day so be sure to ask if any parents are available to lend a hand.

Step 4. Plan the date of your Raising Awareness Sessions

We recommend that you hold a Raising Awareness Session 2 weeks before you Run date in order to motivate pupils and give them enough time to speak to potential sponsors. If you would like a member of the Action Against Hunger team to deliver this for you please let us know in advance!

Step 5. Get excited!

Once you've got all of your plans in place, remind pupils, teachers and staff that the Run is taking place at your school and that you are about to be part of something BIG. Put up your promotional posters around the school and get counting down to race day!
