Too Many Critics

Too Many Critics raised an incredible £22,550 for Action Against Hunger

Too Many Critics

We are thrilled to announce that the Too Many Critics Manchester event held on March 18th at the recently open Dishoom on Bridge Street in Manchester raised an incredible £22,550 - a fantastic amount, and a wonderful evening all round!

Guests at the event were welcomed with a Champagne Taittinger reception, before enjoying dishes specially created by our hard-working critics: Bill Knott (Financial Times, Restaurant Magazine), Louise Rhind-Tutt (I Love Manchester, i News), Matt White (Taste Of Manchester, Fodder), Neil Sowerby (Taste of Manchester), Emily Heward (Manchester Evening News), Ruth Allan (Manchester Wire), and Simon Binns (LADbible).

First up in the kitchen were Ruth Allen and Matt White, heroically kicking off proceedings with Mancunian cheese toast, and crispy paneer served with Kairi chutney. Next up were the main courses, with Emily Heward and Louise Rhind-Tutt taking to the grill to served up tandoori prawns and saffron lamb chops, whilst Neil Sowerby and Simon Binns whipped up their curry dishes of Keralan fish moilee and a roasted cauliflower and aubergine korma. And last but definitely not least, Bill Knott rounded things off on a deliciously sweet note by creating a cardamom pannacotta.

Competition for guests' votes was fierce, but the eventual winners were:

 - Best Dish, Chef Judges Choice: Neil Sowerby's "Keralan Fish Moilee with Lemon Rice"

 - Best Dish, People's Choice: Ruth Allan's "Mancunian Cheese Toast"

 - Best Beer Cocktail: Neil Sowerby's "Bhangra Beatnikz"

As well as enjoying silent and live auctions under the watchful eye of our phenomenal host, Nigel Barden, guests also took part in a 'Heads & Tails' fundraising game with a prize generously donated by Champagne Taittinger, whilst learning all about the work that Action Against Hunger does across the world. The £22,550 raised is the equivalent needed to save the lives of 537 severely malnourished children, so thank you to everybody that played a part in this.

The evening would not have been possible without the amazing support of a huge amount of people, but especially:

  • Our seven hard-working critics
  • Dishoom - venue, food and drink sponsor, and all-round amazing people!
  • Champagne Taittinger
  • Haloodies, Neve Fleetwood, and The Courtyard Dairy - food sponsors
  • J W Lees, Northern Monk, Manchester Union Brewery, Beatnikz Republic Brewing Co, Shindigger, and North Brewing - beer cocktail sponsors
  • Glace Media

Thank you to everybody that attended and supported this event, and we look forward to seeing you in 2020!
