Love Food Give Food Celebration Evening

On Monday 27th March, we held our annual Love Food Give Food Celebration Evening at Anise Bar, Cinnamon Kitchen. We raised a glass to everyone who supported the Love Food Give Food campaign in 2016 and helped to make it our most successful year so far.

By uniting with the restaurant industry, we can help transform lives all over the world: providing the nutritional treatment for malnourished children to grow up strong and the tools and training needed for whole communities to prosper.

Love Food Give Food is Action Against Hunger's flagship, annual restaurant fundraising campaign which unites chefs, restaurants and diners. Every year in September and October, hundreds of restaurants across the UK raise funds by inviting their diners to make a discretionary £1 donation with their bill, or by adding a small donation to a popular dish on their menu. Check our all the restaurants who took part in Love Food Give Food in 2016 on our restaurant directory

We kicked off the evening with a small awards ceremony to congratulate our top fundraising restaurants, hosted by our UK Director of Fundraising, Matt White. Matt recently returned from Nepal, where he accompanied a group of our chef and restaurant industry supporters to complete a tough six-day trek in the Himalayan mountains.

Our award winners

2016 Love Food Give Food Top New Individual Fundraiser - The Sky Garden
During their first year of fundraising, The Sky Garden raised an incredible £9,152.40 to help provide malnourished children with healtheir futures.

2016 Love Food Give Food Top Group Fundraiser - Hakkasan
Across their five restaurants, the Hakkasan Group raised £42,936.05. This is the most any restaurant group has ever raised during Love Food Give Food in one year, a phenomenal achievement.

2016 Love Food Give Food Social Media Champions - Pho
During Love Food Give Food, we ran a social media competition where diners had the chance to win a meal for two at a top restaurant every month for a year, by posting about where they are dining and supporting Action Against Hunger on Twitter or Instagram. A whole third of entries to the competition were taken at Pho Restaurants! Pho also raised £28,026 during the campaign. Pho's Head of Marketing, Libby Andrews, is a long-term, dedicated supporter of Action Against Hunger. Thanks to her support and commitment, Pho employees across the country got behind the Love Food Give Food campaign and encouraged their customers to donate to Action Against Hunger, and spread awareness for our work on social media.

Significant Individual Contribution - Ben Maschler
We were delighted to present Ben Maschler with this award, for his work on Auction Against Hunger and Love Food Give Food. It was Ben's idea to host a one-night auction with incredible food-related prizes, and as a result, Auction Against Hunger has raised over half a million pounds since the event began in 2013.

We had a fantastic evening celebrating the success of Love Food Give Food with our friends in the industry! Thank you to our hosts Cinnamon Kitchen for their generous hospitality, and to our ambassador of over a decade, Executive Chef Vivek Singh, who helped us celebrate. We would also like to thank all our sponsors on the evening: The Vino Beano for kindly providing the wine, Chase Distillery for sponsorsing the Rhubarb Vodka in the specially-created cocktail on the evening, Goa Premium Beer for providing the beer, Belvoir for providing the soft drinks, and Wenlock Spring for providing the water.
