Hawksmoor Restaurants and Action Against Hunger

We are so grateful to be supported by fantastic restaurants across the UK, who fundraise each year during the Love Food Give Food campaign and beyond. There are some teams who have supported our work for several years, and one such team is Hawksmoor, who have been raising funds and awareness for Action Against Hunger since they founded their award-winning restaurant group in 2006. We talk to Hawksmoor's founders, Will Beckett and Huw Gott, and look into the many ways they have supported us over the years.

“Supporting Love Food Give Food seemed like the logical thing to do” said Will Beckett, Hawksmoor co-owner. "We work in an industry we love and have managed to build a company around food. It feels like the right thing to do to use that privilege to help those who don’t have sufficient access to food and drink.”

Throughout the year, Hawkmoor add a 50p donation to their dessert of the month, as well as donating all the profits from their cookbook, Hawksmoor at Home, to Action Against Hunger. They have also hosted countless charity dinners, auctions and raffles, and their staff have put themselves through their paces by taking part in physical challenges to raise funds.

Will emphasises the importance of ensuring Hawksmoor's staff are actively engaged in the fundraising. “Quite aside from whether Huw (Gott, co-owner) and I enjoy it; our staff enjoy it," he said. "As a company, we try to connect people with a feeling of purpose in their work. It’s such a great feeling to know that your work directly helps people in need."

Huw and Will were able to see exactly how Action Against Hunger spends money raised when they visited one of our projects in Liberia in 2013, alongside their events manager at the time, Alice Henderson.

“It was extremely encouraging to see the integration between the immediate life-saving treatment of child malnutrition, with the sustainable long-term solutions to hunger,” Huw explained. “We saw first-hand how Action Against Hunger is doing an incredible job of saving the lives of severely malnourished children."

Last year in Liberia, funds raised by Action Against Hunger’s supporters enabled nearly 60,000 people to receive nutritional support and more than 100,000 to gain access to safe water and sanitation.

Through their hard work and dedication over the years, the Hawksmoor team has raised nearly £700,000 for Action Against Hunger. This is a staggering amount that has already helped to save the lives of thousands of people worldwide. We would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to the Hawksmoor team!

Eat out at Hawksmoor and help support Action Against Hunger.
