Student supporters get trekking to end hunger

UK university fundraisers challenge themselves and go global this summer.

Before the next academic year begins, university students from around the UK are setting off to take on the trekking challenge of a lifetime after months of fundraising for Action Against Hunger. On Tuesday, a team of students from the University of Nottingham headed out to Tanzania to complete the iconic Kilimanjaro trek, having hit their fundraising targets of up to £3,000 each.

And this is just the start - over the next two weeks we will see 158 students from RAG groups (university fundraising societies) lacing up their walking boots and heading off to complete the Kilimanjaro trek in Tanzania or Machu Picchu trek in Peru. These intrepid trekkers have raised an impressive £412,000 over the past year - doing everything from bake sales to row-a-thon's to help them smash their fundraising targets ahead of their challenge.

"Everyone at Carnival RAG is immensely proud to have been a part of Action Against Hunger's student fundraising this year! To know that we're part of a community that is having a real impact on children suffering from malnutrition around the world is so rewarding and something we're extremely proud of. It makes all of the time and effort put in to our fundraising completely worthwhile." Calum Coker, Carnival RAG President, University of Birmingham.

THANK YOU

As our students prepare to complete their challenge, we wanted to take this opportunity to thank them and their RAG groups for another year of fantastic support and dedication to Action Against Hunger. Good luck to all students from Nottingham, Bath, Birmingham, Manchester, LSE, Portsmouth, Warwick, Plymouth, Exeter and York universities and thank you for choosing to challenge yourselves and support our lifesaving work through your fundraising efforts. Students - lazy? Not ours!
