Rich Sharples, Head Chef at Hispi in Didsbury, South Manchester wanted to do something to mark the season of gratitude.

Traditionally Thanksgiving is celebrated to give thanks for a good harvest and so felt a fitting occasion for the team to be able to celebrate their love of food whilst raising funds for others around the world whose harvests have not been so prosperous. 

So this is a unique opportunity to experience a Thanksgiving-inspired menu in the intimate surroundings of multi award-winning Hispi in aid of Action Against Hunger was born. The menu, specially created for the night, has been designed with a big nod to the American holiday feast but with its own  very unique twist... there will be absolutely no sad dry turkey here.

“As chefs, it’s easy to forget how lucky we are to work with a great variety of food on a daily basis. We think the work that Action Against Hunger does in less privileged areas of the world is amazing and Thanksgiving provides the perfect opportunity to create a menu with a nod to America’s favourite holiday, a time for sharing and reflecting.”

The Thanksgiving (or Thanks for Giving) evening is £40 a person with all profits going to Action Against Hunger.

Truffled sweet potato cake, jack cheese, cornbread and streaky bacon

Deep fried quail, crispy leg, chestnut and salted cranberry

Pecan pie, english breakfast tea

Saltwater taffy, caramel popcorn, brown butter blondie

This is not the first time the Elite Bistro team has kindly fundraised for us. In 2015 following the devastating earthquake in Nepal the team behind Sticky Walnut used their social media presence to rally their hospitality friends across the country to host a multitude of fundraisers which raised over £50,000 in just a matter of weeks. Gary Usher, owner of the company, was Mr January in our chef calendar of supporters and GM at Sticky Walnut Adam Tomlinson hiked a mountain in Ethiopia with a team of chefs in 2016 to raise a combined amount of over £100,000.
