Gordon and Tana Ramsay set up the Gordon Ramsay Foundation in 2014 and we are extremely grateful to be one of the benefitting charities. They have set the ambitious target of raising £2 million over two years and will launch a number of initiatives to achieve this goal.

The first major event for the foundation took place on the 14th of June 2015 – the GR100 Ironman 70.3 in Staffordshire. The GR100 is an exclusive team led by Gordon Ramsay who all took on the challenge of a lifetime at the Ironman event and at the same time fundraise for the Foundation. We’re incredibly excited to be a part of this foundation as the funds that will be donated to Action Against Hunger will make a big difference to children and their families around the world.

My colleague Matt White and I travelled to Stafford to cheer on all the GR100 participants including Gordon and Tana themselves. The whole team had done an incredible job training in the run up to the event and you could see how everyone had bonded as a team and were all rooting for each other to do well at the event.

The event consisted of a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike ride and a 13.1 mile run (half marathon) on a very flat course in and around the stunning and historic setting of Shugborough country estate in Staffordshire.

The day before the event the GR100 team got together one last time before the big day to hear speeches from Gordon, Tana, Will Usher (the GR100 coach) and a motivational speech from Dave Scott, six time Ironman triathlon winner. Then it was back to the hotel for everyone to get ready for their very early 3am start the next day! It was great to chat to Gordon and Tana to find out more about why they were taking on this challenge and to hear how passionate they are about raising funds for the foundation’s benefitting charities.

It was incredible watching all the athletes take part on the day and there was a real sense of team spirit amongst the GR100. Once Gordon had completed the Ironman in under 6 hours (well done Gordon!) he came over to the foundation cheer point to cheer on all participants including Tana. Everyone loved having him cheering them on until the last GR100 member had completed the course and everyone got together for a triumphant final team photo. It was an impressive achievement by everyone involved!

The Gordon Ramsay Foundation also provided 5 star hospitality in their tent which included delicious food from Bread Street Kitchen, one of Gordon’s restaurants. We have been supported by the restaurant industry for 17 years and this partnership with the Gordon Ramsay Foundation strengthens those ties and demonstrates the commitment of chefs and restaurateurs to support Action Against Hunger’s life-saving work around the world.

Thank you to all the GR100 team for taking on this challenge and fundraising for the Gordon Ramsay Foundation which supports our work to provide children and their families with healthier futures. We are eternally grateful to everyone involved for all their fantastic efforts.

This is just the first of many exciting opportunities from the foundation so watch this space for the next initiative you can get involved with.  You can find out more on their website: https://www.gordonramsay.com/#GRF.
