This summer we launched an exciting new volunteering opportunity for people wanting to support Action Against Hunger in their community. A Community Champions group is made up of local volunteers that want to give their time, skills and enthusiasm to help raise vital funds and awareness of Action Against Hunger's work around the world.

After a summer of recruiting, we're delighted to be able to introduce Bobby from Manchester, Action Against Hunger's first every Community Champions Chair.

What made you decide to want to be a Community Champion?

I have always enjoyed volunteering and have been doing it since I was 15. I decided it was time to get involved with something I can really commit to, something I get excited about and that offers so many opportunities to do so much good for the world around us.

What are you looking forward to doing as a Community Champion Chair?

I am looking forward to really getting involved with the work the charity does and all the projects I will be a part of. I can’t wait to see some of the results from it as well but a really big one for me is the people. It will be so amazing to meet all these new like-minded individuals with whom I will share so many new and exciting experiences and create unforgettable memories.

What do you hope to achieve with your Community Champions group?

I think that all these groups that are being set up around the country could become an integral part of Action Against Hunger, they could get the word about the charity’s work out there, they could help make that work possible by raising the funds and in the long run they could become a nationwide supporting system for the organisation. They have so much potential and I hope that I could help at least one of them achieve something amazing!

What would you say to someone considering becoming a Community Champion?

I would say do it, of course! All you need is a true desire to make the world a better place and some free time on your hands. And I know it sounds like a cliché but everybody knows that it becomes a cliché for a reason – it is just the simple truth - that feeling you get when you see how much you have accomplished and for such a good cause is definitely worth it!

In order for Community Champions to make a difference we need your support! If you'd like to join Bobby's Community Champions group in Manchester or help to start a new group near you then get in touch today.
