"Malnutrition accounts for nearly half of all deaths in children under 5 around the world. Action Against Hunger believes that to tackle malnutrition successfully, a holistic approach is required that recognises its relationship with poverty." Comments Action Against Hunger's Head of Nutrition, Alexandra Rutishauser-Perera.
DFID's Global Nutrition Position Paper
"We welcome DFID’s Position Paper as it rightly identifies the need to address wasting, low birth weights and the provision of micronutrients alongside the prevention of stunting in children, whilst encouraging the global community to do more.
"The paper commits to improved integration of nutrition into water hygiene and sanitation, livelihood, social protection and health programmes. To succeed, DFID will need to ensure that its investment into nutrition focuses on delivering a package of highly intensive interventions.
"The focus on women, girls and minorities is critical to curbing malnutrition. We welcome the recognition that impacts can be enhanced by improving feeding for both infants and young children, as well as the mental health of mother and child.
"We look forward to working with DFID on accelerating progress on nutrition as we continue to pursue the Global Goal to end hunger by 2030."
