Rebecca Mascarenhas and Sam Harrison have leant their support to a fantastic fundraising campaign aimed at raising vital funds towards Action Against Hunger’s Haiti relief operation. The campaign, brainchild of Sam Harrison's financial controller Fanny Stocker, encourages restaurant-goers to donate money when they receive their bill. Participating restaurants include Locanda Locatelli, Carluccio’s and the Soho House Group.
The HELP Haiti Fundraising Drive kicked off on February 8th with a fundraising lunch at Sam's Brasserie in Chiswick. Restaurant staff donated their time and ingredients were supplied free of charge, meaning all of the £30 ticket price went directly to Action Against Hunger. The event was a huge success and helped raise just over £5,000 towards the organisation’s relief efforts in Haiti.
Sam Harrison, owner of Sam's Brasserie, commented: "We've been supporting Action Against Hunger for a number of years, so as soon as Fanny told me about this campaign we were behind it 100%. As you're eating sumptious food, it's important to remember people who may not have food to eat. The envelope campaign is a way of giving something back."
Almost 200,000 envelopes have been distributed to restaurants around the UK and the campaign will continue until the end of March. All envelopes have been printed completely free of charge by Heritage Envelopes and postage has been sponsored by Citylink, meaning any money donated goes directly to Action Against Hunger's emergency response.
