Nom Nom Nom 2010, the ‘MasterChef’ for bloggers, has raised nearly £1,000 this year for Action Against Hunger’s work around the world – a fantastic amount, and a record in their brilliant three years of support.
Nom Nom Nom is an innovative and fun competition, giving food bloggers, photographers and writers the opportunity to prove their own abilities in a professional kitchen, judged by chefs, food writers and critics, followed by a luxurious raffle in aid of Action Against Hunger.
Organiser Mecca Ibrahim has spoken to us about the decision to support Acton Against Hunger, and how the event came about:
How/why did you decide to support Action Against Hunger?
We were holding an event where we'd be preparing lovely food, photographing and videoing food and then blogging the results, so it seemed to make sense to try to help people who don't have the luxury to do all of this and getting basic food & clean water itself is a major challenge. Action Against Hunger were the perfect charity to support.
How did Nom Nom Nom come about?
It was a challenge for bloggers to actually put there money where their 'mouse' is and rather than blog about restaurants or TV chefs to see what they could do in a professional state of the art kitchen - Cookery School - in central London. Initally the idea was to pair a good cook with someone who wasn't particularly great at cooking, but was an engaging blogger. However, we now have entries from people who’s cookery skills are equally good.
How did Nom Nom Nom 2010 go?
The third year was probably the best so far. There was an amazing sense of cameraderie and sharing across the teams. We've also raised more for Action Against Hunger than in the previous two years put together. The public voted in droves too with over 2,200 votes for the online Viewers' choice part of the competition.
How can people get involved?
We'd so like to raise over £1,000 and are almost there, so it would be fantastic for people to enter the charity raffle which closes at the end of August. There's some fantastic prizes up for grabs including £150 food and bar tab at Giant Robot or Redhook, Cookery School lessons worth £180, a starter knife block set from Wusthof worth £379 plus lots, lots more.
