London, 9 October 2011 - Four of the UK’s top female chefs joined forces last night as they prepared a gourmet feast for special guests at Action Against Hunger’s Fine Wine Auction & Dinner to raise vital funds to help malnourished children around the world.
The exclusive event saw Angela Hartnett MBE (Murano restaurant), Anna Hansen (The Modern Pantry), Claire Clark MBE and Clare Smyth (Restaurant Gordon Ramsay) cook up a storm for 200 special guests at London’s famous 1 Lombard Street, where the event was held.
Angela Hartnett MBE said: “It was an absolute pleasure to be involved with the Fine Wine Auction once again. I really enjoyed sharing the kitchen with such a brilliant group of chefs and the atmosphere has been fantastic, with us all working together to prepare the special menu. Action Against Hunger’s work to help malnourished children was in our minds throughout the evening and we are all really proud to have been a part of it.”
Guests took part in an exclusive auction in association with Luxury Explorer, to bid for luxury prizes and ‘money can’t buy’ experiences. Lots included a fishing trip with BAFTA award winning Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, dinner for two at noma in Copenhagen (recently named the World's Best Restaurant for the second year running), as well as the opportunity to snap up dinner at other top restaurants around the world, Michelin-starred chef experiences and one-off tastings at some of the world’s finest vineyards created especially for the Fine Wine Auction.
Action Against Hunger teamed up with Champagne Taittinger, Justerini & Brooks, Chateau Pichon-Longueville, Taylor's Port and Courvoisier to ensure that the unique four-course dinner was complemented with some of the world’s best wine, champagne, port and cognac.
The event saw the presentation of Action Against Hunger’s coveted ‘humanitarian of the year’ award, which was given to Hajir Maalim, for his outstanding commitment, leadership and dynamism to humanitarian aid.
Upon receiving his award, Hajir said: “I receive this award with deep gratitude and great humility as it represents our continued effort to help families in need. As I receive it, my heart is full of appreciation to the communities Action Against Hunger helps. I learnt a lot from witnessing their daily struggles and the hopes they have for the future. I see this as an opportunity to reflect on what we have achieved together to be inspired for the future.”
