Thanks to the extremely generous support from Financial Times readers, an amazing $1,639,185 million has been raised in aid of Action Against Hunger | ACF International’s life-saving programmes around the world.
Paul Wilson, Chairman of ACF-UK, said: "We would like to say a warm thank you to all those who contributed towards making the Financial Times Seasonal appeal such a fantastic success. The funds raised thanks to the appeal will greatly help make an invaluable, real difference to the lives of thousands of children at risk of life-threatening malnutrition and their families in some of the poorest countries worldwide. Whether saving the lives of malnourished children or providing food security to thousands of vulnerable communities, all funds raised will have a lasting impact."
Over the course of the appeal, FT correspondents reported exclusively from Guatemala, Pakistan, Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Niger, bringing to life the reality of child hunger and its underlying causes. The FT’s online appeal coverage also featured a blog series from ACF staff members who provided detailed accounts of their successes and challenges in combating hunger and malnutrition in six countries spanning the globe.
The appeal, which ran from November to January, was supported by Weight Watchers International and the John and Wendy Neu Family Foundation, who contributed $100,000 and $200,000 respectively. An exclusive online auction of lunches with top FT writers raised an amazing $111,000 towards the appeal. A further $1.08 million was raised through other initiatives including a gala dinner in New York and Fine Wine Auction in London.
“Because of the generosity of FT readers, Action Against Hunger will be able to save even more young lives threatened by malnutrition and help families gain a foothold in some of the poorest and most inaccessible places on earth,” said Raymond Debbane, Chairman of Action Against Hunger’s Board of Directors. “To everyone who contributed to the appeal, thank you.”

There is little that glitters in the children’s ward of Nola District Hospital. Perhaps that is why Vanessa Awendu’s earrings stand out. The malnourished child’s jewellery – matching the pair worn by her 26-year-old mother, Seraphine – seems defiantly feminine in the face of a condition that can render boys and girls difficult to distinguish.
