Organiser, Sabrina Ghayour said: "I just couldn't sit and watch this tragedy unfold before my eyes. Haiti is already a dreadfully poor country and with many people still rebuilding their lives after the hurricanes of 2008, it is just horrific to think what the lucky survivors must be going through right now." (Article cont'd below)
"The easiest way to understand how someone feels is to put yourself in their shoes, imagine you lost everything and everyone. Once I did that, I just couldn't stand by and do nothing and pairing my experience and contacts in the restaurant industry with my role as a food writer at Foodepedia, I decided to put together an event to raise as much money as possible."
"I chose Action Against Hunger, because they were one of the first charity aid-workers to reach Haiti. I have always supported their efforts as a charity and know where the money goes, how it is used and that they don't just throw money at a problem short-term and then walk away, they stay on setting up projects to help people deal with the rebuilding their lives on an ongoing basis."
"They are a wonderful charity and their efforts have reached so many different areas of the world struck by tragedy and devastation. Plus with their links to the restaurant industry through the 'Restaurants Against Hunger' arm of the charity, it really was an easy decision for me to choose who i wanted to give the proceeds of my event to."
