Top chefs unite to raise funds for Haiti quake survivors

Contenu

Sabrina Ghayour and Foodepedia are organising a fantastic fundraising dinner to take place on Monday 8th February in aid of Action Against Hunger's emergency response to the devastating earthquake which struck Haiti.

Confirmed chefs include Vickram Purewal from Le Bouchon Breton (who are kindly providing the venue for the special event), Atul Kochar of Benares, Herbert Berger  of 1 Lombard Street , John Burton-Race, who needs no introduction and Chris Galvin of Galvin la Chapelle. These top chefs will make up a team working side-by-side to prepare an exquisite five-course feast, paired with expertly matched wines. There will also be a raffle and an auction with some fantastic items to bid on.

Tickets are still available for this inspired event. To purchase please contact: sabrina@foodepedia.co.uk or call 079 6133 6198

Date: Monday 8th February, 6:30-11:00

Venue: Le Bouchon Breton, Old Spitalfields Market, E1

Cost: £175 including food, wine and soft drinks

Organiser, Sabrina Ghayour said: "I just couldn't sit and watch this tragedy unfold before my eyes. Haiti is already a dreadfully poor country and with many people still rebuilding their lives after the hurricanes of 2008, it is just horrific to think what the lucky survivors must be going through right now." (Article cont'd below)

Action Against Hunger at work in Haiti

"The easiest way to understand how someone feels is to put yourself in their shoes, imagine you lost everything and everyone.  Once I did that, I just couldn't stand by and do nothing and pairing my experience and contacts in the restaurant industry with my role as a food writer at Foodepedia, I decided to put together an event to raise as much money as possible."

"I chose Action Against Hunger, because they were one of the first charity aid-workers to reach Haiti.  I have always supported their efforts as a charity and know where the money goes, how it is used and that they don't just throw money at a problem short-term and then walk away, they stay on setting up projects to help people deal with the rebuilding their lives on an ongoing basis."

"They are a wonderful charity and their efforts have reached so many different areas of the world struck by tragedy and devastation.  Plus with their links to the restaurant industry through the 'Restaurants Against Hunger' arm of the charity, it really was an easy decision for me to choose who i wanted to give the proceeds of my event to."
