April 2012 - The London Marathon can mean many things for different people. For some, it’s a once in a lifetime challenge, for others it’s the opportunity to raise funds for a cause they believe in, and for one couple it was the chance to cement a love which had been lost for over 30 years.
Hazel and her partner Scott met in Norway 35 years ago when they were students and enjoyed a two year romance until 1979, when somehow the couple drifted apart without meaning to and lost contact for over 30 years.
Then, thanks to the powers of Facebook, the pair were reunited in 2010 and have not looked back since. They discovered that everything they had in common in the 70’s had not been lost over the years apart, and they decided to run the London Marathon together to raise funds for Action Against Hunger.
Hazel says “The end of the Marathon was an amazing moment! We were so happy to have finished together, after all these years. And we had a long kiss on the finish line, semi-holding each other up.”
Action Against Hunger’s Senior Events Officer, Francine Heggie, said: “We all absolutely fell in love with Hazel and Scott’s story and are so pleased to be a part of the tale. We are thrilled that they decided to run for Action Against Hunger and it was lovely to see them so happy together at the finish line.”
